Job summary

UC San Diego Health seeks a Senior Communications Manager, Team Member Engagement, to lead internal communications across the health system. You will develop strategic plans, craft content for diverse channels, and coordinate reviews with stakeholders.

You will manage multichannel campaigns, ensure consistent leadership messaging, and support a culture of belonging. Strong writing, editing, and project management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a bachelor’s degree in a related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.
• Demonstrated experience and proven knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of communications technology and the ability to guide technical staff or carry out technical work, including design concepts, media, and related applications.
• Strong understanding of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure, along with awareness of current affairs and issues affecting higher education and/or health sciences.
• Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long- and short-term strategic communication plans.
• Proven ability to advise and support leaders on a wide range of communications needs, from developing effective strategies to responding thoughtfully to sensitive or complex issues.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with strong active-listening abilities and sound judgment in sensitive situations.
• Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and project-management skills, with the ability to identify potential issues, prevent problems, and develop effective solutions.
• Thorough knowledge of the appropriate protocols and communication channels for engaging with internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal communication plans and project briefs; drafts and edits content for multiple internal channels; coordinates stakeholder reviews and approvals.
• Build communications within designated digital platforms, including SharePoint and Emma; execute timely distributions that promote awareness and participation.
• Lead the internal communications for annual campaigns including wellness and safety surveys, awards, town halls, and Pride Month activities.
• Prepare leadership messaging and instructional aids for supervisors and managers; execute multichannel campaigns that inform, inspire and encourage action.
• Serve as backup managing editor for the weekly Physician/APP Update newsletter.
• Translate complex information into clear, concise content tailored to diverse internal audiences.
