Job summary

Hubbell Incorporated in Shelton, CT is seeking a Senior Commodity Manager to lead end-to-end strategy for the Wiring Systems portfolio, driving multi-million-dollar productivity and building a resilient supplier base.

You will lead a team of commodity specialists, partner with Purchasing, Planning, Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Corporate Commodity Management to deliver cost, lead time, quality, and supplier delivery improvements through data-driven sourcing and strategic negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, or procurement, ideally in electrical, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
  • People leadership experience managing and developing professional teams.
  • Proven track record of delivering material productivity and leading complex negotiations with strategic suppliers.
  • Strong knowledge of commodity markets relevant to Wiring Systems (copper, steel, resins, components).
  • Proficiency in SAP (MM/PP), Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint, with strong analytical and financial acumen.
  • Experience with supplier qualification, dual sourcing, and global or nearshore supply bases.
  • Excellent executive communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or APICS/ISM certification is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to supplier sites and plants, both domestic and international.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, own, and execute multi-year commodity strategies for the Wiring Systems portfolio (e.g., copper/aluminum wire, steel, fasteners, plastics/resins, and electronics) that align with BU growth plans and the annual operating plan.
  • Lead, coach, and develop commodity specialists and analysts. Set clear goals, hold people accountable, and build the team’s capabilities.
  • Present commodity strategies, risks, and performance to BU and Supply Chain leadership in a monthly business review.
  • Own the BU’s material productivity target, and build and manage a pipeline of savings projects (negotiations, market tests, VA/VE, consolidation, and resourcing).
  • Lead complex negotiations, long-term agreements, and contract renewals with strategic suppliers.
  • Monitor commodity markets, forecast cost exposure, and develop mitigation strategies such as indexing, hedging support, and clawbacks.
  • Apply total cost of ownership (TCO) and should-cost analysis to sourcing decisions.
  • Make sure supply continuity to operations stays uninterrupted, and lead escalation and recovery for critical constraints and past-due backlog.
  • Lead supply base rationalization, dual and third-source qualification, and regional or nearshoring strategies to expand external capacity and reduce risk.
  • Assess supplier capacity against demand, and close gaps before they affect customers.
  • Resize and realign the supply chain as BU needs change, including product transfers, new product introductions (NPI), and acquisitions.
  • Lead the supplier performance program, including scorecards, QBRs with key suppliers, and constraint reviews with critical suppliers.
  • Improve supplier on-time delivery (OTD), quality, and responsiveness through structured corrective action and supplier development.
  • Drive lead time reduction and validate supplier lead times in SAP (PIR and material master) so they reflect demonstrated performance.
  • Develop stocking programs (VMI, consignment, safety stock) to improve availability for customers.
