Job summary

Columbia Bank is seeking a skilled Commercial Underwriter to assess and underwrite C&I and CRE credit requests, including working capital and equipment financing. You’ll collaborate with CPMs, CSMs, and Relationship Managers to justify recommendations and ensure proper risk ratings and policy adherence.

Ideal candidates have 7–10 years in commercial underwriting or lending with strong analytical ability and proficiency in credit analysis, financial statement spreading, and cash flow assessment.

• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced credit and credit quality skills including accounting, financial statement spreading, and cash flow analysis experience; ability to train and present to small and large audiences or has the interest in learning to train and present.
• Demonstrated time management skills, reflecting the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously while delivering work product on time.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups across the company to manage internal and external customer relationships.
• Possess excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Advanced knowledge of credit policies, procedures, practices and documentation.
• Proficiency with personal computers and related software packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other business machines.
• Ability to train and present to small and large audiences or has the interest in learning to train and present.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites new and renewal C&I and CRE credit requests, including working capital lines, asset-based lines, CRE loans, and equipment financing.
• Prepare credit recommendations with risk ratings, exceptions, and loan coding.
• Monitor borrower financial performance and covenant calculations per loan docs.
• Collaborate with team to identify customer financial needs and advise on loan structures.
• Shadow or train under management approval to manage portfolio.
• Oversee work of other underwriters or analysts and ensure high-quality reports.
