Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a seasoned Code Enforcement Officer III to perform highly specialized inspections and enforce municipal codes across diverse property types. The role requires independence, technical judgment, and the ability to act as the city’s final technical authority on complex code matters.

Responsibilities include training junior staff, preparing notices of violation, and presenting evidence in hearings.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience interpreting and enforcing codes/ordinances.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Current license as a Code Enforcement Officer issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

Responsibilities

• Conducts specialized, technical, and complex inspections to ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal regulations; serves as the final technical authority on code enforcement.
• Identifies and addresses non‑compliant concerns; investigates alleged violations and tracks corrective actions; collects data on code violations.
• Investigates non‑compliant issues and recommends corrective action; collaborates with developers and others to address violations; follows up as needed.
• Creates notices of violation; photographs and gathers evidence during inspections; issues citations and responds to citizen complaints.
• Educates citizens, developers, and the public; interprets laws and regulations and educates about code standards.
• Drafts, maintains, and edits inspection and code enforcement documents; tracks service requests and progress.
• Oversees, trains, and develops lower level officers; ensures quality control of inspection activities.
• Travels across the city to perform inspections; testifies in hearings and trials for code violations and zoning matters.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.
