Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer I to inspect and enforce municipal codes across city properties, districts, and public spaces. The role includes conducting inspections, issuing citations, and guiding property owners toward compliance.

You will review and document inspections, educate the public on regulations, and stay current with codes and certifications while working a schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of heavy citizen/customer service contact resolving complaints.
• Current Code Enforcement Officer Trainee certification (or higher) issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) will meet the education and experience requirements.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Must obtain certification as a Code Enforcement Officer Trainee issued by TDLR within probationary period.
• Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Inspect city properties and projects to ensure code compliance.
• Identify and address non-compliant concerns with relevant parties.
• Investigate issues and recommend corrective actions; follow up.
• Create notices of violation; photograph and gather evidence.
• Educate the public on laws and code standards.
• Draft and maintain inspection documents.
• Stay updated on code standards and maintain certifications.
• Drive city vehicles to perform inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
