Job summary

Wabtec Corporation is seeking a skilled setup operator to work in the machine shop. You will set up and operate conventional and CNC machines to fabricate metal and nonmetal parts, following drawings and tolerances.

The role requires reading engineering docs and using precision tools, with opportunities to program simple CNC operations and contribute to process improvements. Expected to collaborate with engineers and production staff, maintain safety standards, and ensure quality of first runs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5 years of setup operator experience.
• Proven math, reading, and computer skills.
• Able to receive and execute written or verbal instructions.
• General knowledge of machining techniques and methods.
• Able to set up and operate CNC machinery.
• Able to interpret engineering drawings and use precision measuring tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional and CNC machines to fabricate parts.
• Confer with engineers and production staff to resolve machining issues.
• Study prints to determine dimensions and tolerances; determine sequence of operations.
• Select fixtures and tooling per material specifications.
• Calculate feeds and speeds; may write G-code programs.
• Produce first run and verify conformance using precision measuring instruments.
• Load programs and take offsets; adjust machining operations as needed.
• Suggest improvements to manufacturing processes and tooling.
• Keep the work area clean and follow safety procedures.
• Assist other team members as needed.
