Job summary

Wabtec in Salem, VA is hiring a CNC Setup Operator to program, set up, and operate CNC and conventional machining equipment to manufacture precision components. You will read engineering drawings, install tooling, adjust offsets, and perform first-piece inspections to ensure accuracy.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED plus technical machining training and at least 5 years of machining experience. Shifts include 1st and 2nd, with safety and quality as top priorities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Technical training in machining, manufacturing, or CNC operations preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and conventional machining equipment to manufacture precision components.
• Select and install tooling, fixtures, and machine offsets per specifications.
• Read engineering drawings and process plans to ensure product accuracy.
• Perform first-piece inspections and quality checks using precision measuring instruments.
• Monitor cycle times, production output, and product quality.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and report equipment malfunctions.
• Maintain accurate production counts and meet daily production goals.
• Support continuous improvement and maintain a clean, safe work area.
