Job summary

Wabtec’s Machine Shop in Salem, VA seeks a skilled machinist to set up and operate conventional and CNC machines, following drawings and process sheets to produce high-quality parts. You will inspect finished pieces with precision tools, ensuring counts and production standards are met.

You will contribute to continuous process improvements and maintain a safe, organized work area. A high school diploma and 5 years of machining experience are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machining techniques and methods.
• Ability to set up and operate CNC machining equipment.
• Ability to interpret engineering part drawings and use precision measuring equipment.
• Proven math, reading, and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional and CNC machines to fabricate parts.
• Follow process sheets and drawings to prepare machines and fixtures.
• Ensure parts meet quality specs using precision measuring instruments.
• Look for ways to improve manufacturing processes (fixtures, tooling, methods).
• Maintain clean, safe work area and report deviations or malfunctions.
