Job summary
Astra Space Inc is seeking a Production CNC Programmer in the San Francisco Bay Area. The role focuses on programming CNC mills for a variety of projects, with setup and operation responsibilities and collaboration with shop staff and vendors.
You will drive predefined jobs from CAM software such as NX, ensuring proper tooling and inspection are in place. Ideal candidates will have 8+ years in a machinist role, 2+ years with NX Cam, and expertise in 5-axis milling, live tooling, and precision
Qualifications
- 8+ years as CNC machinist in a fast-paced shop
- 2+ years NX Cam experience required
- Experience setting up and programming CNC mills/lathes
- Ability to lead setup/operating activities and mentor teammates
- Experience programming/running 5-axis mills, mill-turns, and horizontal mills
- Strong GD&T knowledge and ability to read shop drawings
- Experience with tooling, fixtures, and inspection in-process parts
- Ability to lift 40+ lbs and perform physical tasks as needed
Responsibilities
- Interpret drawings to select tools, fixtures, and inspection equipment
- Develop and program production on CNC machines using CAM software
- Lead production on machines with pre-programmed jobs and guidance
- Set up/install new tools and workholding; proof programs
- Operate or hand-off to support staff as needed
- Operate manual milling/lathe equipment when required
- Perform in-process inspections and document results
- Communicate with shop staff, QC, engineering, and vendors
- Identify bottlenecks and suggest improvements
