Job summary

The Development CNC Machinist role focuses on programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes and mills, plus manual machining and inspections to produce high-quality parts for the Astra Spacecraft Engine.

You will use CAM software such as Siemens NX and work with a skilled team in a fast-paced shop in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience as a CNC machinist in a fast-paced shop.
• Proficient in CAM programming with Siemens NX, Mastercam, or similar software.
• Experience with manual milling/lathe and inspection processes.
• Ability to calculate feeds and speeds and solve geometry problems.
• Understand materials, their grades, machinability, and inspection standards (GD&T).
• Proficient with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages) and thread inspection.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings and select tools, workholding, and inspection equipment.
• Program and operate CNC machines, including NX or similar CAM software.
• Operate manual knee mills, lathes, drill presses, and related equipment.
• Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and gauges, cooperating with QC.
• Communicate with shop, quality control, and engineering teams.
• Identify bottlenecks and propose improvements to shop processes.
