Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking a CNC Machinist III to set up and operate complex 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC centers for aerospace hardware. The role focuses on one-of-one and low-volume parts, using Inconel, titanium, and other exotic alloys, with precision in setup, verification, and tool condition monitoring.

Independent machining judgment, collaboration with Programming, Engineering, and Quality, and mentorship of junior machinists are key.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of CNC machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Ability to independently set up and operate complex CNC machines.
• Experience with one-of-one, prototype, or low-volume high-value components.
• Experience machining exotic alloys like Inconel, titanium, stainless steel, copper.
• Conversational programming using Fanuc and/or Siemens controls.
• Basic CAM experience with Mastercam/ESPRIT/CATIA or similar.
• Experience in AS9100 or equivalent quality systems.
• Strong GD&T and blueprint-reading skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machining centers.
• Prove out setups with Programming and Engineering.
• Machine one-of-one, prototype, and low-volume flight hardware.
• Perform conversational programming and edit G-code/M-code.
• Install and qualify fixtures, tools, probes, and datums.
• Interpret drawings and GD&T requirements.
• Perform first-piece and in-process verification and monitor tooling and process stability.
• Troubleshoot machining issues with cross-functional teams.
• Provide guidance to less-experienced machinists.
