Job summary

Bunnell-Lammons Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Department Manager to lead BLE's Construction Materials Testing Services in the Charlotte area. This senior role oversees field and lab operations, staff development, project delivery, and client service while partnering with the Charlotte Branch Manager to grow the practice.

Successful candidate will balance technical excellence with financial performance and leadership, driving growth, quality, and client satisfaction within an employee-owned firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required; PE license preferred.
• PE license required.
• Typically 8+ years of progressive experience in construction materials testing, special inspections, or related engineering.
• Experience managing field-testing, laboratory operations, and multidisciplinary teams of technicians and inspectors.
• Strong knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, ICC, and DOT standards and related quality-management practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee field and laboratory operations, staffing, scheduling, and project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with testing standards, lab accreditations, calibration, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead QA/QC, review testing results and reports, and provide technical guidance on complex challenges.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain qualified technicians and inspectors; develop training and certification programs.
• Manage department budgets, forecasts, staffing plans, profitability, and client service metrics.
