Job summary

Vast Space Llc. is seeking a Senior CMF Designer to own and advance the color, material, and finish strategy for our Haven program.

You will collaborate with industrial designers, material engineers, and supply chain to shape astronaut experiences through advanced materials. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Industrial Design, you will lead end-to-end CMF development, including research, testing, vendor collaboration, and production-ready designs for Haven-1 and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Material Science, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of CMF design experience with ownership of CMF programs.
• Proven track record leading CMF design independently on complex, highly engineered products.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the CMF design strategy for the space station experience, ensuring materials, colors, and details add value while meeting safety criteria.
• Apply design specifications and manufacturing requirements to ideate, visualize, and develop CMF concepts for aerospace products with minimal oversight.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, suppliers, and engineering throughout all development phases to drive CMF designs to production.
• Build and maintain a CMF materials library and design standards that scale across Vast programs.
• Source, vet, and manage a network of vendors and fabricators, evaluating cost, performance, and innovation tradeoffs.
• Partner with outside test agencies to validate new materials against aerospace requirements and own qualification.
• Present CMF strategy and design direction to leadership and stakeholders at program milestones.
• Identify and de-risk material decisions that could impact schedule, cost, or certification.
