Job summary

Vast is seeking a Senior Color, Material, and Finish Designer to lead CMF strategy for Haven-1 and beyond. You will own CMF end-to-end, from material heritage research through testing and final production, in collaboration with designers, engineers, and suppliers.

Location is Long Beach, CA, with a focus on human-rated space station materials and safety compliance. You will mentor other designers, develop design standards, and partner with outside test agencies to validate new materials.

Qualifications

• Must have CMF design ownership from concept to production.
• Experience leading CMF strategy on complex, engineered products.
• Strong communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the CMF design strategy for the space station experience, ensuring values align with engineering and safety standards.
• Develop color, material, and graphic concepts for aerospace-grade products with minimal oversight.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, suppliers, and engineering through all development phases.
• Build and maintain a CMF materials library and design standards across programs.
• Source and manage vendors, evaluating cost, performance, and innovation tradeoffs.
• Partner with test agencies to validate materials against aerospace requirements and qualification processes.
• Present CMF strategy and designs to leadership and stakeholders at milestones.
• Identify de-risking opportunities for material decisions affecting schedule or cost.
