Job summary

Syms Strategic Group is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) to provide expert operational support for cloud-based systems. The role emphasizes on-call readiness, rapid problem resolution, and collaboration with customer teams inside a Veterans Affairs context.

You will maintain and optimize Linux/Windows environments, implement automation with scripting, and participate in CI/CD and IaC practices to ensure system reliability and compliance with security standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of systems engineering experience, especially in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-level, day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Follow standard practices and procedures to analyze situations or data.
• Detect and resolve system outages with diagnostic data collection and recovery work.
• Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work directly with customers in day-to-day activities.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems, escalating as needed.
• Communicate status of key issues to users and senior management.
• Maintain computing infrastructure, install updates, and ensure security policies.
• Implement continuous improvement through IT systems or procedures.
• Maintain inventory of system assets.
• Ensure VA security standards are met.
• Provide documentation and training as assigned.
