Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s Optum ServeIT team seeks a senior Cloud/SRE to architect, develop, and maintain a secure, high‑performing cloud environment across Azure commercial and government clouds. You will partner with software engineers, architects, and DevOps to deliver resilient platform services. The role offers remote work within the U.S.; for Minneapolis or Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in a cloud engineer/SRE role
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, Pulumi
• Experience with Kubernetes deployment tools like Helm, ArgoCD, Flux
• Experience supporting infrastructure in production cloud environments
• Experience with monitoring tools like Azure Monitor, Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus
• Experience working with RESTful services
• Expert knowledge of a cloud service provider
• Expert knowledge and hands on production experience in Kubernetes cluster setup and management
• Knowledge of Encryption, PKI, OWASP
• Understanding of IAM
• Familiarity with IDEs and Source Control tools like VS Code and Git
• Proven awareness of networking and internet protocols
• Available and willing to be 24/7 on-call rotation
• United States citizenship is required for this position
• Bachelor's Degree in Comp Sci/IT/SE/Math/Physics
• Master's Degree with advanced coursework in algorithms/data structures
• Expert knowledge of Azure
• Demonstrated passion for infrastructure automation
• Ability to prioritize in fast-paced environments

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and operate IaaS and PaaS in Azure commercial and government clouds
• Collaborate with dev teams to measure SLOs, SLAs and SLIs
• Contribute to development of platform services including architecture, provisioning, configuration, deployment, and support
• Integrate with central logging, metrics dashboards, instrumentation, incident monitoring
• Build/administer systems and tools for observability in production
• Support software and/or cloud infrastructure in on-call rotation
• Identify root causes and automate remediation in production
• Maintain and improve operational tooling/frameworks
• Build tests for performance and resiliency of platform services/tools
• Automate alerts for metrics on performance, cost, vulnerabilities, risk, and compliance
• Improve processes and automate manual support tasks
