Job summary

EY is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer in the United States (national remote work possible). You will act as a hands-on technical authority for AI-enabled cloud foundations, guiding architecture, reliability, and cost across multiple use cases.

The Challenger Core program builds shared technology and guardrails to accelerate production-ready services. Responsibilities include defining deployment automation, reviewing architectures, and leading incident response.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study.
• 9-12+ years of relevant experience.
• Substantial experience designing and operating cloud, infrastructure, platform, or site reliability capabilities in production.
• Technical depth: solving complex distributed-system problems and explaining why the solution will work.
• Hands-on expertise with infrastructure as code, modern runtime platforms, networking, identity, and delivery automation.
• Production reliability: defining service objectives and using observability, capacity planning, and recovery testing to improve live systems.
• Incident leadership: investigating difficult failures, supporting response, and converting lessons into durable remediation.
• Automation judgment: strong coding skills and the ability to validate AI-generated or otherwise automated engineering output independently.
• Cross-team influence: mentoring engineers and guiding architecture or readiness decisions without formal delivery ownership.
• Travel and On-site requirements: up to 50% travel and hybrid office availability.

Responsibilities

• Build shared cloud foundations. Create reusable infrastructure, environment patterns, and deployment automation.
• Use AI-assisted engineering responsibly. Review, debug, test, and validate resulting code.
• Guide complex designs. Review architectures, migrations, releases with trade-offs.
• Strengthen production readiness. Define evidence before launch and what must change if not ready.
• Set reliability practices. Establish service objectives, observability standards, and operational reviews.
• Make cost and capacity visible. Use workload data to guide scaling and architecture decisions.
• Resolve difficult failures. Lead deep investigations across distributed services.
• Prove resilience. Design performance tests, recovery exercises, and rollback paths.
• Turn lessons into reusable capabilities. Publish reference implementations and runbooks.
• Raise engineering capability. Coach engineers and transition proven capabilities to owners.
