Job summary

M&T Bank seeks a Senior Principal Cloud & Platform Engineer in Buffalo, NY, with hybrid onsite/offsite flexibility. You will define and evolve cloud platform capabilities, standards, and reference implementations used enterprise-wide.

This role emphasizes hands‑on technical leadership, reference architectures, and collaboration with architecture, security, and infrastructure teams to reduce complexity and enable secure, scalable delivery.

Qualifications

• Combined minimum of 10 years' higher education and/or experience in systems design, management, and architecture.
• Thorough understanding of the system development lifecycle and IT Service Management practices.
• Experience in large-scale or regulated enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Define and influence enterprise cloud and platform engineering strategy, standards, patterns, and technical direction.
• Develop approved reference architectures and implementation guidelines for cloud-hosted apps.
• Enable adoption of modern engineering practices by embedding standards into platforms.
• Engage early with application modernization and migration efforts to identify constraints.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to senior engineers and platform teams.
• Collaborate with security, infra, and application leaders to ensure alignment with standards.
