Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own end-to-end delivery of scalable backend systems in a distributed AWS environment. You will design, build, test, and operate complex software, leading architecture decisions and ensuring production readiness.

You will mentor engineers across globally distributed teams, collaborate with product managers and architects, and drive modernization alongside new feature delivery with a strong emphasis on reliability and observability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with backend systems design and operations.
• Strong knowledge of backend concepts including distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, and reliability.
• Experience designing and building microservices, RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and streaming systems.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering initiatives and mentor others.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native engineering including serverless and containerized patterns.
• Excellent communication skills to present technical decisions to product and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support of complex software systems.
• Build scalable backend services, distributed systems, event-driven applications, and stream-processing solutions.
• Drive major initiatives from discovery through delivery and production rollout.
• Balance new features with modernization, reliability, and technical debt reduction.
• Provide technical leadership across onshore and offshore teams and ensure quality.
