Job summary

Skygate Advisors in Chicago, IL seeks a Senior Cloud Engineer to lead complex cloud engagements on AWS and design resilient architectures. You will drive migrations end-to-end, write infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or AWS CDK, and mentor junior engineers.

Collaboration with client executives and architecture governance are key parts of the role. The position is hybrid in Chicago, offering senior responsibilities, direct client interaction, and a strong focus on Well-Architected reviews and

Qualifications

• 7+ years software/infrastructure engineering experience.
• 5+ years hands-on AWS experience across EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, Lambda
• Experience with Terraform or AWS CDK for infrastructure-as-code.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (VPC, TGW, Direct Connect, VPN).
• Experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare) a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication — you will present architecture to C-suite stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture design sessions and Well-Architected reviews for client environments.
• Execute cloud migration projects across multiple client engagements simultaneously.
• Write and review infrastructure-as-code in Terraform and/or AWS CDK.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge base.
• Collaborate directly with client engineering leaders and executives.
• Produce architecture decision records, runbooks, and post-migration documentation.
