Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in acute care hospital nursing or CDI experience as a medical graduate.
• Advanced proficiency in medicine, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
• Strong communication with physicians and healthcare teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform concurrent and retrospective chart reviews to improve documentation completeness.
• Stay current with coding trends and Medicare rules for diagnosis coding and CDI.
• Use ICD-10 materials to investigate coding issues and document results.
• Follow up with providers daily to obtain documentation specificity.
• Provide leadership in clinical documentation improvement and rational recommendations.
• Communicate with providers to clarify documentation requirements based on illness severity and mortality risk.
• Ensure timely follow-through on clarifications and recommendations.
• Leverage Optum CDI 3D Technology for documenting clarification activities.
• Use Optum360 forms for clarifications and engage HIM Coding Professionals as needed.
• Collaborate with Physician Advisor/VPMA to resolve provider issues in CDI.
