Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to review inpatient records within 24-48 hours, identify documentation gaps, and coordinate with physicians to ensure accurate coding and severity reflection. The role involves ongoing provider education, DRG discussions, and collaboration with HIM/coding teams.

You will lead documentation improvement initiatives, engage with physician advisors, and leverage Optum CDI tools to drive improvements in care documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of acute care hospital CDI experience or RN with CDI background
• Strong clinical medicine, pathophysiology, and pharmacology knowledge
• Excellent communication with physicians
• Proficient PC skills in Windows and MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient records within 24-48 hours and identify documentation gaps for accurate coding
• Follow up with providers daily to obtain documentation specificity
• Clarify diagnoses based on severity of illness and risk of mortality
• Round with unit-based physicians and provide Working DRG lists
• Lead physician education strategies to improve documentation
