Qualifications

• Requires college graduation with major in civil engineering or related field and five years of responsible civil engineering experience, including supervisory
• Registration as a civil engineer in California at the time of appointment
• Knowledge of highway survey methods, highway location procedures, and construction standards

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in preparing survey designs and plans for roads, bridges, and other public works
• Direct field survey crews to obtain engineering data required for design work
• Direct office staff in analyzing field data and producing plans, profiles, maps, and drawings for construction
• Review stress analyses of bridges and supervise preparation of structural drawings
• Prepare specifications for bids and provide technical information to officials and the public
• Coordinate with utilities and rights-of-way; direct legal assistance for resolutions and agreements
• Conduct special studies to determine future needs and supervise related activities
