Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is a national engineering firm delivering holistic solutions for complex civil challenges. This Civil Engineering role sits on a multi-disciplinary team delivering land development, drainage, adaptive reuse, and site improvement services, including slope stabilization, floodproofing, and plaza design.

You will collaborate with architects and engineers, prepare proposals, and contribute to project management.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of civil engineering experience; senior roles possible.
• Professional licensure required.
• MS or PhD in Civil Engineering from ABET‑accredited university; pursuing MS possible within 4 years on tuition program.
• Active participation in ASCE or similar organizations.
• Demonstrated advanced technical knowledge in civil engineering.
• Ability to integrate work of multiple technical experts into a solution.
• Experience with similar project types and awareness of external resources.
• Strong time management and project scope management skills.
• Proficiency in structural and hydrologic software (XPStorm, XPSWMM, Civil3D, AutoCAD, AutoTurn, HydroCAD).
• Willingness to travel to out-of-state sites and to remote job sites; valid driver's license and MVR.

Responsibilities

• Prepare proposals with budgeting and staffing requirements.
• Plan work and seek approval from supervisor.
• Handle assignments with general guidance on solving problems.
• Manage complex projects or parts of projects; supervise related work and report results.
• Delegate tasks using coaching for technical staff.
• Maintain client contact within ongoing projects and nurture external team relationships.
• Contribute to internal technical training.
• Draft complex letters, reports, specifications, and proposals with minimal supervision.
• Lead technical discussions with clients and external teams.
