The Consulting Engineer/Project Consultant II role offers hands-on project management, materials testing, and analysis across building, bridge, and piping projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science from ABET-accredited university. Associate’s degree considered.
• 5–10 years of engineering experience (MS may reduce).
• PE license required or ability to obtain within 2 years; experience with custom test set-ups.
• Experience with testing equipment: Instron, MTS, Forney.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, MATLAB, LabVIEW.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines; independent problem-solving; lifelong learner.
• Ability to lead team and work in a collaborative environment; valid driver's license with acceptable MVR.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering testing and analysis for building, bridge, and piping projects across materials.
• Develop scope of services and prepare proposals.
• Serve as Project Manager; assemble/manage project team and be primary client contact.
• Monitor and conduct laboratory testing and failure analysis of construction materials.
• Analyze data to establish cause-and-effect relationships.
• Design and fabricate testing fixtures or subcontract fixtures as needed.
• Conduct on-site inspections and document distress, field testing, and conditions.
• Stay current with new methods and developments in your area of expertise.
• Participate in industry organizations and author papers to gain recognition.
• Develop internal and external research projects related to SGH’s core business.
