Job summary

Kleinschmidt is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary design and construction support for dam removals, embankment repairs, and stream restoration. The position offers hybrid work across multiple US offices and requires a PE license with 10+ years of civil experience.

Responsibilities include leading project teams, coordinating design development, and providing technical QA/QC across projects in hydropower and renewable energy sectors.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience developing construction drawings, notes, typical details, specifications, material schedules, and quantity takeoffs.
• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, including alignments, profiles, corridors, grading design, earthwork modeling, and preparation of existing conditions basemaps from publicly available datasets.
• Prior experience with civil site development for roadways and drainage, land development, dam decommissioning or removal, stream restoration, and/or fish passage engineering.
• Experience serving as a task lead or project engineer responsible for coordinating design development, technical quality, and delivery of engineering projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, mentor junior staff, perform technical quality reviews, and manage project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Professional Engineer (PE)

Responsibilities

• Work directly with senior staff on all stages of project delivery from conceptual designs to issued for bid construction drawings.
• Collaborate with scientists, data analysts, engineers, and licensing experts to develop innovative solutions for renewable energy projects.
• Gain specialized expertise related to civil site design, hydraulic fish passage, and stream channel design for dam decommissioning and embankment protection.
• Participate in site visits, field data collection, engineering calculations, CAD design, and construction observation.
