Job summary

Kleinschmidt is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team for dam removals, embankment repairs, fish passage facilities, recreation facilities, renewable energy projects, and stream restorations. The role involves hybrid work, with a preference for in-office 2-3 days per week across multiple U.S.

locations. Responsibilities include leading design development, coordinating with scientists and engineers, and delivering robust construction drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Development and technical review of construction drawings, notes, typical details, specifications, material schedules, and quantity takeoffs.
• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, including alignments, profiles, corridors, grading design, earthwork modeling, and preparation of existing conditions basemaps from publicly available datasets.
• Prior experience with civil site development for roadways and drainage, land development, dam decommissioning or removal, stream restoration, and/or fish passage engineering
• Experience serving as a task lead or project engineer responsible for coordinating design development, technical quality, and delivery of engineering projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, mentor junior staff, perform technical quality reviews, and manage project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Professional Engineer (PE)

Responsibilities

• Work with senior staff on stages of project delivery from conceptual designs to issued for bid construction drawings.
• Collaborate with scientists, data analysts, engineers, and licensing experts to develop innovative solution for renewable energy projects.
• Gain expertise in civil site design, hydraulic fish passage, slope and embankment protection, and stream channel design for dam decommissioning.
• Engage in site visits, field data collection, engineering calculations, and CAD-based design.
• Prepare spatial analyses or data processing in GIS and contribute to hydraulic modeling results and technical writing of specifications and reports.
