Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (PennDOT) is seeking a Construction Field IIC to guide complex highway and bridge projects, ensuring quality and safety. You will oversee field engineering, interpretations of designs, and coordination with municipalities to keep projects moving and compliant with specs.

The position involves supervising staff, preparing reports and estimates, and may include telework up to 50% after probation.

Qualifications

• Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
• Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering analysis and guidance to resolve complex field issues
• Manage multiple construction projects from start to finish using sound engineering practices
• Review and interpret designs to address discrepancies and ensure intended results
• Work with municipalities, utilities, businesses, and other partners to address project needs
• Prepare reports, estimates, and work orders while tracking material certifications
• Direct, evaluate, and support the work of subordinate employees
