Job summary

The City of Asheville seeks a versatile Project Manager II to lead complex municipal projects from concept through groundbreaking and completion. You will manage full lifecycles—planning, bidding, design, build—while guiding a team of professionals.

Responsibilities include coordinating with city leaders, public communications, budgeting, contracting, and ensuring regulatory compliance. A strong background in construction or related fields plus NC driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field required.
• Supplemented by three years of progressively responsible project management experience; OR a Bachelor's degree in related field with five years of applicable project management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned co-workers and manages project priorities and progress.
• Provides expert technical advice to City staff, consultants, contractors, and the public on procedures, regulations, and standards.
• Assists with planning, implementation, and administration of projects including prioritization for maximum impact and ROI.
• Represents the project to the public, media, other agencies, and City departments; handles PR and public information materials.
• Manages budgets, schedules, purchase orders, invoices, permits, inspections, and reporting.
• Coordinates bidding, contracting, and procurement; negotiates and evaluates vendors and services.
• Oversees construction phases, resolves issues, approves changes, and ensures adherence to schedules and quality.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field

Bachelor’s degree in related field + 5 years PM experience
