Job summary

City of Jonesboro is seeking a Senior Planner to assist in administering planning and development activities at City Hall. You will handle development applications, prepare staff reports for Planning Commission, and coordinate with other departments on a daily basis.

The role requires broad knowledge across planning, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy. This is a full-time, on-site position in Jonesboro with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge in fields such as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc.
• Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 3 years related experience and/or training, and 12 to 18 months related management experience.

Responsibilities

• Processes development applications and coordinates review by City departments daily.
• Drafts staff reports for Planning Commission for conditional use projects monthly.
• Reviews subdivision plats for compliance with regulations monthly.
• Inspects projects under construction for compliance and issues zoning certificates weekly.
• Coordinates with City departments on projects under review by Planning Commission daily.
• Reviews and processes variance applications monthly.
• Responds to citizens with information and guidance daily.
• Maintains regular communication with staff and officials daily.
• Informs supervisor of progress and suggests policy improvements weekly.
• Assists in annexation reviews and map updates annually.
• Provides training for new personnel as needed.
• Collects data, conducts analysis, and presents findings related to City planning as needed.
• Attends meetings and stays current with urban planning developments as needed.
• Acts as administrative zoning official in the absence of Planning Director as needed.
• Operates City vehicle as part of essential duties as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
