Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in the Seattle area seeks a Sr. Application Software Engineer to develop chassis-tester software and Linux instrument drivers for hardware-in-the-loop testing of flight-critical avionics.

You will own driver development, testing, and integration with Themis for automated pass/fail assessment on test campaigns. You will work with avionics hardware engineers to define operating envelopes, extend test frameworks, and create operator-facing tools to configure and monitor campaigns,

Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expert-level Python development and maintainable code practices.
• Experience with Linux system software, drivers, and test frameworks.
• Strong debugging across hardware–software boundaries and with avionics test environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement production-quality Linux drivers for test instruments (power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, DAQ systems).
• Own driver lifecycle from characterization to documentation and testing.
• Collaborate with avionics hardware engineers to define operating envelopes and validate driver correctness.
• Architect and extend automated test execution frameworks and Themis for result checking.
• Develop operator-facing GUI/CLI tools for configuring and monitoring test campaigns.
• Drive usability, reliability, and clear feedback for non-software users in fast-paced tests.
