Job summary

JBG SMITH in Arlington, VA, is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Manager to administer, supervise, and improve maintenance operations across our property portfolio. You will oversee shifts, enforce safety standards, and coordinate with vendors to keep systems running reliably for tenants.

The role requires extensive experience in stationary engineering, HVAC, and building systems, with leadership, communication, and planning abilities to drive proactive maintenance and strong tenant satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1+ year of staff supervision experience in a service-oriented field.
• 6+ years in stationary engineering, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or related mechanical systems.
• 3+ years operating boilers, chillers, and HVAC in large facilities; able to troubleshoot mechanical/electrical issues.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings; capable of preventive maintenance planning.
• Willingness to work overtime, communicate effectively, and lead teams toward safety and performance goals.

Responsibilities

• Identify staff performance issues and conduct corrective action as needed.
• supervise staff evaluations and professional development plans.
• Train and coach direct reports on job responsibilities and performance.
• Coordinate toolbox meetings and orientation programs for teams.
• Maintain on-call duty coverage beyond regular hours and ensure safety standards.
• Operate and repair electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
• Adjust HVAC controls to maintain tenant comfort and meet lease requirements.
• Prepare reports and review operations documentation for compliance.
• Ensure timesheets, leave requests, and asset data are accurate.
