Job summary

Washtenaw County Building Inspection seeks a seasoned Building Official to lead the inspection team, enforce building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes, and support operational effectiveness within the department.

The role requires directing plan reviews, on-site inspections, and interaction with contractors, homeowners, and officials to ensure public safety and compliance with state and local codes.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes.
• Ability to interpret complex codes and enforce local ordinances.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the inspection team and support staff.
• Review construction plans and issue permits in compliance with codes.
• Conduct on-site inspections and assess materials/methods for compliance.
• Lead hiring, supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
• Coordinate emergencies and enforce safety and code compliance.
