Job summary

City of Marion is seeking an Assistant Building Official to support administration, supervision, and enforcement of building inspection activities. The role involves enforcing Building, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical codes, reviewing plans, and coordinating with contractors and other city departments.

Under the Building Official, you will supervise staff, provide technical assistance, and participate in training and appeals board meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Considerable knowledge of modern building code enforcement.
• Considerable knowledge of construction principles for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades.
• Six years' experience in commercial building construction, construction trade, or code inspection.
• Must obtain ICC certifications (E1, E2, B3) within set timelines.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate Building Inspection Division operations under Building Official supervision.
• Direct the work of subordinates within the Building Inspection Department.
• Inspect and enforce Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical codes and related ordinances.
• Review building plans for code compliance and coordinate with other departments.
• Prepare records/reports and provide technical assistance to appeal boards as required.
• Participate in department training and attend relevant meetings.
