Job summary

Construction Association of Michigan is seeking a Building Official to perform routine and technical work enforcing building codes. This role examines plans and conducts on-site inspections to ensure compliance with state and local codes, protecting public safety and property.

Under the Development Director, you will supervise inspectors and staff, review permits, apply codes, and provide guidance to architects, engineers, and contractors.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of building codes and construction practices.
• Working knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing trades.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Proficiency with computers and measuring devices.
• Plan Review Registration under Michigan Act 407 is desirable.
• Zoning ordinances administration knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Reviews/inspects plans and blueprints for compliance; approves permits.
• Conducts on-site inspections to ensure conformity to codes; monitors third-party inspectors.
• Enforces a range of codes and issues correction notices and citations.
• Explains codes to architects, engineers, contractors, developers and residents.
• Responds to customer service requests and maintains records of permits and issues.
• Trains City employees in inspection and code enforcement duties.
• Performs related duties as required.
