Job summary

Gfoat is seeking a qualified Building Inspector to perform advanced residential and commercial inspections and plan reviews. The role requires interpreting building codes, coordinating with applicants and design professionals, and guiding permit staff to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal requirements.

The position involves independent judgment in field inspections, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with multiple departments and outside agencies to resolve complex code issues

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of municipal building-inspection experience or five (5) years of progressively responsible general-construction experience.

Responsibilities

• Conducts and documents advanced residential and commercial inspections of new construction, alterations, repairs, and existing structures to identify unsafe or noncompliant conditions and determine whether work may proceed.
• Reviews complex construction plans, specifications, and permit submittals to verify compliance and provide correction comments for timely permitting decisions.
• Interprets and applies codes, issues inspection results and correction notices, and performs follow-up inspections to obtain compliance.
