Job summary

The City of Reno is recruiting for a Building Inspector in the Development Services Department. This internal recruitment provides a promotional opportunity for current City of Reno employees and will create a list for future vacancies.

Responsibilities include inspecting light commercial and residential buildings, enforcing codes, advising on corrections, and testifying as needed. Candidates must hold relevant licenses/certifications and have two years of inspection experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training in building trades or code enforcement.
• Two years of responsible building inspection, compliance, construction, or enforcement experience.
• Certifications must be from ICBO, ICC, BOCA, or similar recognized agencies.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and enforce applicable building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing codes for light commercial and residential buildings; issue correction notices and fines and testify in court.
• Conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance with ordinances, codes and approved plans.
• Advise contractors and citizens on residential building codes and ordinances and help resolve code related issues.
