Job summary

The City of Fresno is seeking a Building Inspector III to inspect and approve complex residential and light commercial construction in accordance with Fresno Municipal Code regulations. The role includes enforcing fire, life safety, accessibility, and structural standards and advising architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and owners.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience as a residential or commercial building inspector with a Commercial Building, Commercial Electrical, Commercial Plumbing, Commercial Mechanical, Combination Dwelling Inspector, or Combination Inspector certification from the ICC, IBCO, or IAPMO.
• Sixty (60) semester units from an accredited college or university with major course work in construction technology, architectural drafting, industrial technology, electrical/mechanical engineering or related field.
• Substitutions: additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Additional education may substitute for required journey level inspection experience.
• Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License at time of appointment.
• Must acquire ICC or approved testing authority certification as Combination Dwelling Inspector or Combination Inspector within first two years.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, inspects, evaluates, and approves complex construction or alteration of residential and light commercial buildings per Fresno codes.
• Enforces fire, life safety, health, accessibility, and structural/electrical/mechanical/plumbing standards; provides consulting services to architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and owners.
