Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking a Chief Engineer in Herndon, VA to lead the engineering team and manage the building operations, ensuring high-quality work and exceptional customer service. The role oversees mechanical operations, energy management, and preventive maintenance programs in alignment with client expectations.

The Chief Engineer will supervise staff, drive safety initiatives, manage budgets, and coordinate with contractors and tenants.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 7+ years of related work in commercial properties or equivalent experience.
• Licenses/permits for trade may be required (Journeyman or Master Electrician).
• Familiar with EMS/programming and fire alarm systems.
• Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel & Word.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring and training.
• Manage safety programs and 100% site compliance.
• Oversee building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and coordinate maintenance.
• Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs and budgets.
