HR Legacy Commercial is seeking a Chief Building Engineer to oversee maintenance and engineering operations at our Chicago residential properties. The role requires strong technical leadership and a proactive approach to safety and resident satisfaction.

You will manage boilers, HVAC, and utilities, supervise staff, coordinate with vendors, and ensure compliance with codes and OSHA standards while supporting budgets and capital planning.

Competenze

• 5+ years in building engineering, mechanical maintenance, or facilities operations.
• Experience operating and maintaining commercial boiler, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical, heating, and building equipment.
• Previous supervisory or lead engineering experience.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and coordinate repairs.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations.
• Experience using computerized maintenance and work order systems.
• City of Chicago Stationary Engineer License required for duties involving such equipment.

Mansioni

• Oversee daily engineering and mechanical maintenance operations.
• Supervise and train assigned engineering and maintenance personnel.
• Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain boilers, HVAC systems, pumps, motors, and other equipment.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
• Perform and coordinate plumbing, electrical, heating, and mechanical repairs.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests, including heating outages and leaks.
• Conduct regular building inspections for safety and efficiency.
• Manage maintenance work orders and ensure timely completion.
• Monitor equipment performance and recommend repairs or replacements.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance.
• Maintain logs, inspection records, and inventory.
• Ensure compliance with building codes, OSHA, and safety procedures.
• Assist property management with budgets, purchasing, and capital planning.
• Maintain professional, resident-focused approach in all activities.
