Position Summary

HR Legacy Commercial is seeking a dependable and skilled Building Engineer to maintain and repair building systems and equipment at our residential properties. The Building Engineer is responsible for ensuring that building systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably while providing timely maintenance services to residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building equipment and systems.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
• Monitor and maintain boilers, radiators, pumps, and other mechanical equipment.
• Perform general plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs within authorized qualifications.
• Respond to resident maintenance requests and complete assigned work orders promptly.
• Conduct routine property inspections to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
• Perform preventive maintenance to reduce equipment failures and costly repairs.
• Assist with preparing vacant apartment units for occupancy.
• Maintain clean and safe mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and maintenance workspaces.
• Respond to emergency maintenance situations, including after-hours calls when assigned.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work orders, inspections, and equipment servicing.
• Follow OSHA guidelines, building codes, and company safety procedures.
• Report major equipment issues and necessary repairs to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous building maintenance, engineering, or mechanical experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and boiler systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical problems.
• Familiarity with residential apartment building maintenance preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to use computerized maintenance and work order systems.
• Required licenses or certifications for specialized work, as applicable.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders as required.
• Ability to work in mechanical rooms, basements, and other building maintenance areas.
• Ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations.
