Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a responsible-charge structural engineer to lead design, analysis, and detailing of bridge projects across the Commonwealth. You will supervise engineers and technicians, ensure plans meet AASHTO and VDOT specifications, and coordinate with FHWA and stakeholders.

You will manage multiple projects, mentor staff, and provide technical guidance. A PE license and Civil Engineering degree are required for this senior role.

Qualifications

• Apply civil engineering principles to structural design, analysis and review.
• Lead teams and coordinate among staff, stakeholders and clients.
• Provide project management, schedules, budgets and contract oversight.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and check bridge and structure designs for new, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.
• Ensure compliance with AASHTO and VDOT specifications and standards.
• Lead and mentor engineers and technicians; coordinate with stakeholders and FHWA.
• Develop project scopes, manage schedules, reviews, and manhours; supervise technical staff.
• Communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences; support construction activities.
• Provide technical guidance and leadership across sections and divisions.
