Job summary

City of New York is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer (Civil) in the Bridges division. The role involves performing bridge inspections, preparing reports, and supporting project design, construction, and maintenance on major NYC bridge structures.

The position may require evening, night, and weekend work as part of field operations. Qualified candidates must hold a civil engineering degree (or related) with required experience as outlined and be prepared to work in elevated, confined spaces

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and one year of satisfactory civil engineering experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering technology with three years of civil engineering experience.
• A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-depth, routine, special, and emergency bridge inspections under supervision.
• Produce bridge inspection reports following New York State standards.
• Identify hazards and prepare sketches, drawings, and specs for safety and repairs.
• Drive inspection van and support field work, potentially work evenings or weekends.
