Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to lead technical bridge design and project delivery on diverse transportation projects. You will supervise staff, coordinate with project managers, and ensure designs meet client standards and safety requirements.

Strong mentoring, communication, and site-visit oversight are essential. The role involves developing construction documents for bridges and retaining walls, performing analyses with industry tools, and supporting load

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college with four years of relevant experience in discipline design and analysis.
• Registered Professional Engineer in TN or ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical bridge design and documentation while supporting project delivery, client coordination, and quality on every assignment.
• Perform structural engineering studies and design analyses using industry software and sound engineering judgment.
• Lead the development of construction documents for bridge design, bridge repair, and retaining wall projects, ensuring clarity, constructability, and alignment with client standards.
• Coordinate with the project manager to define project scope, schedule, and budget, providing timely input on risks and resource needs.
• Attend meetings with owners, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to communicate design intent and resolve issues.
• Review submittals and drawings from contractors and fabricators, providing clear feedback and recommendations.
• Lead production of bridge repair and replacement plans using OpenBridge and MicroStation, and support load ratings.
• Contribute to design approaches and concepts, including selection of structural systems, materials, and construction methods for steel and concrete structures.
• Evaluate the work of design colleagues, provide constructive feedback, and guide corrections that uphold SSR's quality standards.
• Mentor and support less experienced staff in understanding structural design principles, technical procedures, and project execution expectations.
• Conduct job site visits during construction to observe field conditions, monitor progress, and provide technical guidance to inspectors.
