Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to lead technical bridge design and documentation for diverse projects, coordinating with clients and internal teams to ensure quality and timely delivery.

You will mentor junior staff and guide project execution across steel and concrete structures. The role involves site visits, collaboration with owners and contractors, and developing construction documents for bridge repairs, replacements, and retaining walls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from ABET-accredited college; four years of relevant experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer in TN or ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical bridge design and documentation while supporting project delivery, client coordination, and quality on every assignment.
• Assume responsibility for assigned bridge projects or defined portions of larger projects, delivering work on time and within budget.
• Perform structural engineering studies and design analyses using industry software and sound engineering judgment.
• Lead development of construction documents for bridge design, repair, and retaining wall projects; ensure clarity and constructability.
• Coordinate with project manager to define scope, schedule, and budget, and provide input on risks and resources.
• Attend meetings with owners, clients, and contractors to communicate design intent and resolve issues.
• Review submittals and drawings from contractors, providing clear feedback and recommendations.
• Lead production of bridge repair and replacement plans using OpenBridge and MicroStation; support load ratings development.
• Contribute to design approaches including selection of systems, materials, and methods for steel and concrete.
• Evaluate work of design staff and mentor juniors to uphold SSR quality standards.
• Conduct site visits to observe field conditions and guide inspectors.
