Job summary

The MBTA seeks a Senior Bridge Structural Engineer and Design Manager to lead a team in delivering high‑risk bridge projects for highway and rail/transit systems in the Boston area. This role requires a licensed Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and a proven track record in design, analysis, load ratings, and cost estimates.

You will collaborate with multiple MBTA departments and external consultants, supervise staff, and communicate complex technical issues clearly to stakeholders,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering or related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible bridge/structural engineering experience.
• Two years of supervisory or management experience.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (Civil or Structural) in Massachusetts or ability to obtain within six months.
• Experience in design/analysis of steel, timber, reinforced/prestressed concrete bridges.
• Knowledge of temporary works, shoring design, and construction support.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise bridge/structural design activities across highway and transit projects.
• Collaborate with MBTA departments and external stakeholders on technical standards.
• Perform design calculations, load ratings, plans, sketches and specifications.
• Ensure quality control and quality assurance on bridge inspection and rating reports.
• Coordinate with operations, construction logistics, contract support, and capital delivery teams.
• Manage project tasks, deliverables, and resource commitments.
