Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a senior bridge design engineer to lead multi‑phase projects from concept through construction plans. You will perform analyses, develop layouts, and produce final bridge designs for DOT clients in the Southeast, with emphasis on safety, constructability and resilience.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with roadway, geotechnical and hydraulics teams, and contribute to proposal strategies to win new work in a dynamic transportation practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• PE license is required or pursued.
• 10 years of related experience in bridge design or equivalent.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency varies by project.

Responsibilities

• Lead bridge design projects through all phases from concept to PS&E.
• Perform structural analysis, design calculations, and plan production for transportation bridges.
• Prepare and review final bridge plans, specs, and quantities for DOT/agency clients.
• Apply AASHTO standards and state DOT criteria; coordinate with multiple disciplines.
• Mentor junior engineers through design guidance and reviews.
• Support proposals by shaping technical approaches and project strategies.
