Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with 10+ years of design experience to join our Bridges and Structures Team. You will contribute to roadway and bridge projects across MD, VA, and DC, including bridge inspections, design calculations, plans, and cost estimates.

You will collaborate in a team environment, support project managers, and ensure compliance with AASHTO and state criteria. Travel within the MD/VA/DC area and field work are expected.

Qualifications

• PE is required.
• Extensive knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is required.
• Experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria and requirements is preferred.
• Experience with MicroStation is required and understanding of MDOT SHA, VDOT, and DDOT workspaces and CAD standards if preferred.
• Bridge load rating experience preferred.
• Understanding of national and state bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation is preferred.
• Travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area is required.
• Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights using bridge inspection access equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and cost estimate development for DOT and municipal clients.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFI during construction.
• Evaluate existing structures and develop load ratings.
• Prepare engineering reports and TS&L studies for bridge projects.
