Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with 10+ years of design experience to contribute to a growing transportation team. You will work on bridge design and inspection projects across Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, leading design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and cost estimation.

You will assist the project manager with provisions and specifications for DOT/municipal clients, review submittals, and develop load ratings and technical studies.

Qualifications

• PE is required.
• Extensive knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is required.
• Experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria preferred.
• Experience with MicroStation is required and knowledge of MDOT SHA/VDOT/DDOT workspaces is preferred.
• Bridge load rating experience is preferred.
• Ability to travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and DC area.

Responsibilities

• Lead design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and cost estimate development for DOT/municipal projects.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction.
• Evaluate existing structures and develop load ratings.
• Prepare engineering reports and pre-TS&L/TS&L studies for bridge replacement projects.
• Develop pre-scoping reports to help clients decide rehabilitation vs replacement.
• Perform inspections of simple and complex bridges and write inspection reports.
