Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with 10+ years of bridge design experience to join our Bridges and Structures Team. The role focuses on design, inspection, and project leadership across MD, VA, and DC, with opportunities to grow within transportation projects and field assignments.

You will collaborate with a team of professionals, lead design calculations, and assist with inspection reports and pre-scoping studies for rehabilitation or replacement decisions.

Qualifications

• PE is required.
• Extensive knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is required.
• Experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria and requirements is preferred.
• Experience with MicroStation is required and understanding of MDOT SHA, VDOT, and DDOT workspaces and CAD standards if preferred.
• Bridge load rating experience preferred.
• Understanding of national and state bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation is preferred.
• Successful completion of FHWA/NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training course is preferred, but not required.
• Ability to travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area.
• Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead bridge design and inspection projects for DOTs and municipalities in MD, VA, DC.
• Prepare design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and cost estimates, supporting the PM.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction.
• Evaluate existing structures and develop load ratings.
• Prepare engineering reports and TS&L studies for bridge replacements; develop pre-scoping reports.
• Inspect simple and complex bridges and prepare inspection reports.
